Bear Counters
Bear Counters
These online bear counters are unbearably cute! Yet, they’re also useful and can help with a range of lessons from Pre-K through upper elementary students.
A whole rainbow of virtual bear counters are available for classroom and homework activities. To use the bear counters, simply click and drag them onto the grid. You can drag as many of each color as you’d like, creating rows or columns of bears as desired. To remove bears, simply click and drag them off the grid.
We have put together some suggestions for how you might use virtual bear counters in your classroom. You might use these as whole-class, small group, or individual activities:
- Counting practice: Students draw a number flashcard and put the correct number of bears on the grid. Or, you display a certain number of bears on the grid and students have to count them.
- Operations: Have students model addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division problems using the bear counters. For example, they might show one addend with red bears and the other addend with yellow bears.
- Graphing and Data Management: Have older students create a bar graph to show data using the bear counters. They could even conduct a survey showing everyone in the class’ favorite color and show the results using the bear counters.
- Patterns: Have students create, continue, or copy a variety of patterns using the bear counters.
The best part of using virtual manipulatives is there is no clean-up! No bears will end up under your shelves, get tripped over, stepped on, or lost with these virtual counters.
