Kayak
Kayak
Ready, set, race! You’re a world-class kayaker ready to win a race using math. You can only win by being an expert in addition and subtraction math facts.
Here’s how to play. You’re the yellow kayak. However, your path forward is blocked by rocks along the number line. Find the open space and note what number the space is on. Then, choose the equation that will give you the correct answer. Soon, you’ll shoot through to the next stopping point! If you’re wrong, you’ll hit the rocks and new equations will appear. Only one answer is correct for each, so you’ll have to think fast!
Memorizing addition and subtraction facts can help students build fluency. Maths fluency means that children can manipulate numbers quickly, freeing up brain power to analyze word problems. The number line in the game supports children’s understanding by providing a reference on which they can model the equations.
Use this fun game to help your students memorize math facts. It’s a perfect game for early finishers, a math center, or a rainy recess day.
