Random Number

We’re going to generate a number between 0 and 50…can you guess what it will be? Whoever’s guess is the closest wins!

Use our random number generator to help pick a team to go first in a game or to keep math lessons interesting and exciting. How does it work? You can select the range within which the number generator works. Simply choose a number from one to nine million and enter it into the boxes. The box on the left will be your minimum and the one on the right will be your maximum. Hit clear to choose a new number. Then hit “Go” to generate a random number. Hit “Go” as many times as you’d like to continue producing new random numbers. Or, click the blue “Range” button to change the range.

Here are some math games and activities you can try using the random number generator:

  • Build students’ understanding of number order by changing the range and asking students to guess numbers within the range (ie. guess a number between 80 and 100)
  • Have students add up a series of two or more random numbers
  • Ask students to subtract a series of two or more random numbers
  • Have students multiply two random numbers
  • Have students determine the factors or addends of a random number

The possibilities are endless! The best part is no one can accuse you of favoritism when a computer model produces the random number.

How will you use the random number generator?
