Doodle, spin, and spiral around with our fun virtual spirograph. With this tool, your students can explore hypotrochoids. Not sure what they are? Hypotrochoids are trochoids, which are made by rolling one circle around another circle that’s stationary. In other words, it’s a way to draw cool spiral pictures!
Here’s how it works. First, choose a color. Then, play with the controls. The first lever from left to right controls the size of the inner two circles. The second lever controls the size of the innermost circle. The lever on the far right places the pen. Finally, press the play button and watch your spiral form! When you like the picture, press the stop button. You can also change the size of the paintbrush by pressing the dot button. Add more than one spiral and color to your picture, or leave it as is.
As children explore the virtual spirograph, they’re developing mathematical and scientific skills. How? As they experiment with the controls, they learn to predict outcomes and patterns that they will create. Plus, they develop an understanding of geometry.
